My name is Carmen and I attend Dominican University in hopes of obtaining my Masters in Special Education. I am currently on my 4th semester and only have 4 more classes until I begin student teaching. I am really looking forward to that portion of the program. I am eager to gain new insight and experience new hands-on approaches that will help enrich my career path. 

I have worked in the education field for several years. My first experiences started at a small private school. Fortunately, new opportunities were presented where I was able to gain different aspects in many educational settings. Some settings included daycare, private school and now a public school. The school where I work at, I wear many hats. I work in the main office, in the library and push into different classrooms, servicing children with special needs. I have to admit the best part of the day is pushing in and being with the students! The age group I find to be most exciting is kindergarten. Spending one day in a kindergarten class, will leave a lifetime of stories.

When I am not at work, I am a student, a mom and a fiancée (newly engaged)! My family is very fond of the show American Ninja Warrior. My 7 year old son, Jayden AKA,the Monsta Ninja is absolutely amazing on tackling these obstacles. He attends ninja warrior classes 4 times a week. And I must admit... his techniques are quite impressive. Dad and I love to cheer him on during his competitions. We also enjoy doing ninja warrior as a family, playing board games, trying new restaurants and having movie nights.

This technology course seems exciting and I look forward to learning new ideas in this class. I also look forward to incorporating technology in the classroom and with my students.

    Hi Carmen. It sounds like you have a great job where you get to work with kids and know all the happenings around the school! That's exciting stuff. Congrats on your new engagement. Looking forward to a fun term!

    Hey Carmen,
    American Ninja Warrior is an addicting show to watch. It's always fun to engage in activities that challenge you mentally and physically. I've done a few runs with obstacle courses myself. It's great to hear that you are approaching the end of the Masters program. Student teaching is going to challenge you in a good way. Good luck in your last few courses. I'm sure you'll be a great teacher in the near future.

    Hello Carmen! First off, I think it is awesome your family loves American Ninja Warrior! That show is awesome and those guys and girls and amazing athletes! I am also in my final 4 classes at Dominican and also am excited to get some hands on experience in student teaching!

Welcoming Nearpod! Nearpod  Image Source There are many useful resources that teachers can use in their classroom to make learning fun. Nearpod is a fun interactive tool that can be used by teachers for students. The time used for lesson planning can be cut in half through Nearpod.  Lessons are available for teachers, free or for a low cost. The lessons available can also be used for ideas so teachers can use with their students. Exploring Nearpod gave me some ideas for my future students and classroom that can be fun and engaging.  Features included on Nearpod are drawing, filling in the blanks, discussions between peers, voting and polling, and short quizzes. There is even an option for a virtual field trip! I thought that was awesome! There are many different features and specs that make Nearpod beneficial for teachers. Reflection

To be honest, contributing the past seven weeks and being apart of this course has been a bit tedious and overwhelming. I must admit, I am the least tech savvy person and this course has challenged my creativity outside of the box. I find comfort in my ways and how I do things now. However, now knowing how technology evolves and the many free resources available to people, encourages me to want to try to keep up with the many benefits and useful resources the tech world has to offer! But honestly, it doesn’t. Although, I feel the way that I do, I did find this course resourceful and I will continue to use some things I found beneficial for my future use as an educator.  Image Source During this course, there were tools that allowed me to become open-minded on the many resources out there that can help me with my future career as a diverse learner teacher. Mapping Out My Digital Space

Welcome to my digital space! Honestly, I have never thought about what my digital space until now. I also must admit I have not reflected on my own digital space. When I reflect on what I use on my phone or laptop, I notice how much I use personal and professional accounts. Personal accounts include social media accounts, banking and shopping. More of my professional ones are work emails, canvas and anything relating to school, including recently joining Blogger.   I also noticed how much I spend on the internet. David White pointed out how a person can be a visitor or can be a resident. This can all depend on the context the person is in. The resident section is when a person uses the internet to interact with others and leaves a social trace. The visitor section is when a person is trying to accomplish without leaving a social trace.   Mapping out the four quadrants allowed me to sort out and visually see my digital spaces.
